25-year-old genius entrepreneur favored by Sequoia Capital, builds a $250 million Blockchain project in 7 months
Ruan Yubo, a young man born in 1996, has shocked the tech industry with his extraordinary experiences and achievements. He taught himself programming at the age of 6 and won 13 technology invention awards and 5 patents during his middle school years, including honors such as the champion of the Microsoft Imagine Cup and the champion of the Nuremberg Inventors' Competition in Germany. By the age of 17, while still in high school, he had already founded a tech company and served as CEO, focusing on the development of financial education hardware for children.
At the age of 21, Ruan Yubo founded Bawei Capital in Silicon Valley, focusing on investments in cutting-edge technology, with a capital scale of over 60 million USD. He previously worked at Danhua Capital, founded by the famous Chinese scientist Zhang Shoucheng, and participated in the establishment of Skylight Investment. At the same time, he pursued degrees in Computer Science, Finance, and Economics at Boston University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University.
At just 25 years old, Ruan Yubo has attracted attention as the founder of Parallel Finance. Parallel Finance is a DeFi parallel chain based on the Polkadot ecosystem and is regarded as a leading project within this ecosystem. In November 2021, the project secured strategic financing led by Sequoia Capital and Founders Fund just 7 months after its establishment, with a valuation of $250 million, marking Sequoia Capital's first investment in the Polkadot space.
Sequoia Capital partners believe that the platform rapidly established by the Ruan Yubo team has made DeFi more friendly to institutional and individual investors, and has taken an important step toward traditional finance, with the potential to promote DeFi to billions of users.
Yuan Yubo has a unique sensitivity to technology. He believes that Blockchain is the next generation of the Internet and may even bring about broader forms of social collaboration than the Internet. He predicts that in the next decade, most companies will adopt decentralized collaboration models or build applications on Blockchain networks.
In Ruan Yubo's view, Blockchain will reshape existing business models and empower users with more rights. He pointed out: "In the traditional model, companies provide services after acquiring customers, while the blockchain model allows users to become part of the company, having voting rights in platform operations and sharing more benefits through smart contracts."
Regarding the constraints on the development of Blockchain, Ruan Yubo believes that the main factors are regulation and technology. He anticipates that this process may take 5 to 10 years, with the financial industry being the first to be affected, followed by the integration of Blockchain with Internet industries such as O2O, social networks, and shared mobility.
A representative from Founders Fund stated that Parallel Finance is at the forefront of the DeFi ecosystem, and the Ruan Yubo team will profoundly influence the way individuals interact with cryptocurrencies.
At the age of 17, Ruan Yubo began his entrepreneurial journey, admitting that he faced immense pressure and challenges, especially during his first venture when he had to deal with company management and operational issues in addition to technology. However, he now says he fully enjoys the process and believes that studying at Stanford and starting a business in high school are the two most fulfilling things he has done.
Ruan Yubo revealed that his idol during high school was Steve Jobs, and it was Jobs' biography that sparked his entrepreneurial ideas. In the future, this young entrepreneur will continue to pursue his dreams in the fields of entrepreneurship, investment, and technology.
